Shall We Rejoice In A Lie?

John 8:31-32 (NKJV)

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The words of an old song we offer in worship came to mind today as I thought about the promises of God. “Every hour of day, on the homeward way, I rejoice in the Lord” Only those on the “homeward way” can truly rejoice, because it is on this path alone that salvation from sin and everlasting life in the presence of our God can be received.

Jesus said IF we abide in His word, we are His disciples, meaning that those who do not abide in His word are not His disciples. Jesus also said the TRUTH will make us free, thus sin holds us captive. This teaching is simple.

If we love God and our fellow man, we will rejoice in the truth, and never in error. I am always thrilled to see people show an interest in God and search for Him. This makes it impossible for me to rejoice when the devil slithers into those searching hearts with a “different gospel.” I do not rejoice to see a counterfeit gospel proclaimed and I certainly do not rejoice to see folks submitting to it.

No, I absolutely do not rejoice in that. I grieve. I love my fellow man too much to rejoice in their deception. My heart is troubled when people are lied to and given false hope by people they should be able to trust. There is only one “homeward way” and that is through the unchanging gospel found in the New Testament.

As you read this, you might be asking yourself “is it possible that I have been deceived?” That’s an important question for EVERYONE to ask themselves. The only way to answer that is to search the word of God for the truth. If you would like some help in your search for the true gospel of Jesus Christ, let’s study together to find it!

Remember, the TRUTH shall make you free and that is the ONLY thing worthy of our rejoicing!
