About Blue Springs Church of Christ
Why Are We Here?
Simply stated, we love Jesus and He is worthy of our surrendered lives. Our congregation exists to proclaim the death, resurrection, and glorification of God's Son, Jesus Christ, in our community (1 Corinthians 11:26). Through pure and simple gospel preaching and striving to be like Jesus, we want to share the word of God with all people! (1 Timothy 2:3-4). Our congregation is united in our love for Jesus and each other. In a world filled with pain and suffering, we work together to show the world the hope that lies in the glorious Kingdom of our Lord. When each one of us enters that kingdom by coming into contact with the blood of Jesus Christ, God gives us the promise that nothing on earth can separate us from His love if we remain faithful to Him (Romans 8:37-39). When life on earth comes to an end, those who love God will be raised from the dead to live with Him forever (1 Peter 1:3-5).
We are all striving to develop the attitudes necessary to promote and maintain unity in the Kingdom. It is our perpetual prayer that all of God's children would "speak the same thing," and that no earthly divisions would come between us as we worship and serve God (1 Corinthians 1:10). We strive to be Christians only – to base our faith, doctrine, and practice on the Bible only, for only on this foundation can we truly be one (Ephesians 2:19-22, 4:1-16). We believe that if each of us submits fully to Christ, all dividing walls between us will crumble as we work together in the hope of our coming resurrection (1 John 5:1-5).
What to Expect at Our Services
Each time we come assemble together, it is our priority to worship God side by side in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). We organize our worship service before it begins to prevent any confusion or disorderliness (1 Corinthians 14:26-40). Each item of worship is designed by God and conducted according to His divine instruction to glorify Him and encourage each other. All of our members worship together, regardless of age or gender.
In each service, including evening services and gospel meetings, we have singing, teaching, and praying and we only observe the communion and lay by in store (collection) on Lord’s day mornings.
Singing
We sing several songs throughout our services. You will probably notice the lack of instrumental music in the singing portion of our service. God’s Word teaches us to sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19) We do not use instruments for this reason.
The New Testament does not authorize instrumental music in the assembly. We praise, teach, and admonish each other as we sing with grace in our hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)
Prayer
Jesus tells us that we always ought to pray and not lose heart (Luke 18:1). In our worship services, you will hear several prayers humbly offered to God. We praise God, give Him thanks, ask Him to guide us, to help those in need, and confess His name through prayer. (Matthew 6:5-13)
Teaching
We hope that you will find our teaching doctrinally sound and uplifting. The men who teach in our congregation always make an effort to present the truth in a loving way. (Ephesians 4:15)
In accord with God’s pattern, only men teach in our worship service. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35; 1 Timothy 2:11-12)
We do not have Bible classes at our congregation. We all come together in one place and as one body to hear the teaching of God’s word. (1 Corinthians 11:18,20; 14:23)
We hope that you will follow along in the Bible as you hear the teaching and after the sermon, we encourage you to search the Scriptures to see if the teaching is true (Acts 17:11).
Communion
Every Sunday during our morning worship service, we participate in the communion, remembering the death of our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). In accordance with the scriptural pattern, a man takes one loaf of unleavened bread, gives thanks and blesses it, breaks off a piece, and then passes the loaf to the rest of the congregation so that each member may partake by breaking off a piece. He then takes the cup containing grape juice, gives thanks and blesses it, takes a drink, and passes it to the rest of the congregation to drink from (Mark 14:23).
We acknowledge the words of Christ concerning the spiritual significance of each element used in the communion. We understand the loaf to represent His sacrificial body and the cup containing the fruit of the vine to represent the New Covenant in His blood (Luke 22:19-20).
We teach the importance of discerning each of these elements properly (1 Corinthians 11:29). People who come to visit us sometimes wonder whether they should partake of the communion. Anyone who is not a member of the church should not feel obligated to participate in the Lord’s Supper.
Contribution
Our members lay by in store by which we have been prospered to fund the work of the church and the needs of the members (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
This collection takes place only on Sunday morning and only members of the church are expected to give. Please do not feel compelled to give if you are a visitor!
