Have You Risen to Serve Him?

Following His sermon on the mount, Jesus descended from the mountain and traveled through the area performing many miraculous healings before boarding a small fishing vessel to continue His journey. That afternoon, Jesus made a stop at Peter’s house.

Matthew 8:14-15 (NKJV):

14 Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever.

15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.

This is a very short, but profound account of a miraculous healing performed by Jesus. First of all, we can't help but be awestruck by the supreme power of Jesus Christ over all things. He had power to feed the masses, heal the sick, and the winds and waves obeyed His command.

When Jesus touched Peter’s mother-in-law, the fever left her. This is truly amazing, but I want to focus for a moment on his mother-in-law’s response to being healed. It says that after she was healed, she arose and SERVED them.

How have we responded to our healing? For those who have obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ, your sinful disease was cured and you have been healed by the Blood of Jesus. You might have followed the Biblical pattern for gospel obedience, but after you were healed, did you arise and serve Him?

John 12:26 (NKJV):

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

Have you risen to serve Him?
